As someone living in a place that still celebrates 6th of December as the day of St. Nicholas I feel the need to object to you saying that St. Nicholas and Santa are the same person. Santa may have been based on St. Nicholas once upon a time, but these days they are two completely different people.

(Also, I'm pretty sure that St. Nicholas is not and never has been called Christkindl. They are two entirely different beings. In fact, wasn't the Christkindl created by the Protestants as a counter-figure to St. Nicholas?)

I never said he was Chris Kindle. I said Kris Kringle came from a corruption of that name. Chris Kindle was a baby Jesus with wings that would bring presents on Dec. 25th.

Also, the majority of who Santa is comes from the poem "Twas the Night Before Christmas' which was written by a preacher, who was inspired by the hearing stories about St. Nicholas.
