This has happened to me. I declined the friend request.

I use facebook mostly to keep relatives informed of major events in my life. I also have some current friends and some past housemates added. But I have no desire to keep in touch with people I haven't seen since high school whom I didn't like in high school either. I don't care if they know I declined the friend request. I have no desire to "get revenge" for things that happened over a decade ago. How in the world would I even do that via facebook? Argue with their status updates?
