21. I know, it worries me a bit as well. But I still like that a gay character got such an incredibly awesome and very meaningful role in the series :D And his thing for Grindelwald makes him all the more lovable for me, since that sort of love is always difficult to handle.

too bad he couldn't be out while being incredibly awesome and very meaningful in the series and it had to be tacked on at the end.

I definitely see your point.

However, I don't think his sexuality really had much to do with his role in the books. And as low as it sounds I doubt Rowling wanted to lose her homophobe readers before the series ended, either.

I don't think Harry would have known, and it was written following Harry around. Who Dumbledore gets the hots for, or who Minerva had a crush on as a child, or what Hagrid is having for dinner, is irrelevant unless relevant to Harry.

That could be part of why I squee'd. Because ... I was hopeful that it would make a positive difference. Plus it's awesome that he's gay but it's not... flaming, or even all that relevant to his role as a character. Which is how it should be.
