(Anonymous) 2007-10-21 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)Nobody should ever feel the need to censor themselves for the benefit of someone else. Especially not over something as fickle as liking a yaoi pairing. It's not the end of the world for either you or her and if it would actually have such a huge impact on her that she'd freak out over it, then maybe she's long overdue for learning that not everyone will pander to the way she was raised.
For the record, I don't like yaoi either. But if my friends post about it, I don't get upset or post a bitchy comment or freak out about it. I scroll past and move on.
I see a lot of "my friends would freak out if they found out I *insert really stupid, insignificant thing here that shouldn't impact friendships in any way*" secrets. People need to stop pandering to each other and realise that their personal LJs are their space. So what if your friends don't agree with something you like? The world would be boring if we all agreed with each other all the time and people who can't accept something as small as a difference in opinion over PORN should learn that sooner rather than later.
