Well, there's also the issue that it'd be kind of hard to make a Sleepy Hollow series and not have Ichabod Crane in there somewhere.

It'd be a whole different series, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but I'm just saying.

If they had chosen different names for the town, show, and character, the only resemblance to Irving's story would be a horseman sans head, and that alone is not enough to call it an adaptation. I wish they had just thought up their own names and admitted they were making an original story. the show was hard for me to get into at first because I kept trying to fit it in with the story and the other adaptations I've seen, and it wasn't working.
Then I threw all that out the window and hey presto! it's a fun show.

tbh, he's barely in it now, at least as far as the original character is concerned. Sleepy Hollow just happens to have a headless horseman some guy named Ichabod Crane, and some woman named Katrina van Tassel. The connections to Washington Irving's story are mostly superficial.

So a series about two sisters investigating weird happenings in a town that might involve a headless horseman? That could just as easily be Sleepy Hollow.
