Haha, exactly. That is nightmare material.

Has Smauglock picked up since I've been away from fandom? Thorin/Bilbo is clearly the popular pairing, and Smauglock seemed to be almost nonexistent.

I was never fully in the fandom so I don't know for sure, but I don't think so? From the little I've seen it's mostly Sherlock people trying to make it a thing and LoTR/Hobbit people going "nokthx we're good as is."

Bagginshield and Durincest (Fíli/Kíli) are still the biggest pairings. Smauglock seems to be a niche thing for Sherlock fans.

Mostly I see a few fics here and there turn up on the AO3 listings, and an occasional human or Elven-shifted Smaug (with implied Cumberbatch-inspired looks) prompted on the kink meme.
