It is so hard to buy bed sheets. I need new ones and have been trying to find them on Amazon. I have no idea what to look for. D:<

I am also trying to get Christmas gifts together (trying to get them cheaper on Cybermonday). DAMN MY BIG FAMILY WITH NO SPECIFIC INTERESTS!

Haha christmas shopping

I suck at shopping. No one wants anything usually and/or my fiancé wants weird shit that I refuse to buy because I won't buy things that aren't useful in some way. He wants a watch, but "a weird one." But not a kids one. I'm like, uhh.

Bed sheets. I have this weird thing for bed sheets. Even if I'm not buying any when I go shopping I always have to through the bed sheet isle, and touch everything. If I could I'd buy a new set of sheets every time I went shopping, they've got to be really soft, and snugly though.

I have been in love with jersey knit bed sheets ever since college.

I'll have to go to the store and fondle some. See if I enjoy the texture. THe picture of the fabric looks familiar.

What do you mean by 'what to look for'? I'm confused.

Thread count, material, brand, etc.

Oh. I'm...not 100 percent sure on thread count, i just buy what looks pretty, heh. I guess - the higher the count the softer/more expensive. And i *do* know that percale is a bit stiffish and slippery and not, to my mind, ideal for sheets. I would go with 100 percent cotton and...the design/colors that make you happiest.

Unless you're spending 1000 dollars on sheets, i can't imagine the brand makes a bit of difference.

The higher the thread count, the stiffer the sheets, actually. Makes sense when you think about it.

Hrmmmm. Then why are people always going on about 400 or 600 count sheets?
Now i'm confused.

Re: Rant thread.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-18 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
The thread count is how many threads per (iirc) square inch there is on the sheet. Ergo, if there are MORE threads packed into a tinier surface area, physics dictates it's going to be stiffer. But because it's more expensive (due to the higher thread count), people tend to overlook the fact that they're scratchy/not plushy because, hey, would YOU admit you can't stand the sheets you just paid three digits for?? They last longer, but that's about the only advantage, to the higher thread count.

Jersey knit is cheapest, has the lowest thread count, and yeah, wears out the fastest, but is way more comfortable than $1K-handspun-by-Egyptian-orphans-2000-thread-count sheets you have to make an appointment just to buy......

It's true, jersey sheets are very nice (though the ones i had shrank oddly), but everything i read online said higher thread count sheets were softer. I've never actually did a side-by-side comparison, so i have no clue, and besides - brand-new in the package sheets all feel kinda stiff, since they've got sizing and stuff on them. You really can't tell until they've been washed.

I got the impression they were silkier? Like rather than your fingers going bump bump bump over fewer thick threads there's more thinner ones so it's smoother.

Hrmmmm, maybe?

Heh. I don't imagine i'll ever know!

I like stiffer sheets. I enjoy the feeling of weight without excess warmth.

I bought my last few sets of sheets at Overstock.com. Unless you like scratchy sheets, go for something over a 250 thread count. I avoid microfiber sheets because they attract lint & cat hair like crazy. They have some high quality stuff there, and the customer reviews are dead useful.
