My main point was that it was on display, so I thought it had become that popular with mainstream readers.

I saw a display of gay cowboy erotica at Hastings. Dont make it popular with mainstream readers.

No. It just means her publisher/the people in charge of which book gets displayed think it's good enough to be promoted like that. Which says nothing about the quality or how helpful her writing will be to people, it just means someone's hoping to make money off it.

Being popular with mainstream readers doesn't mean all of those people consider her the spokesperson for depression.

Lots of people suffer from depression, or have in the past. Mainstream Society isn't some kind of blank slate that knows nothing about depression and can't recognize that not everyone's experiences are the same.
