And then they decide that the binder is a symbol of the transness and so having another character go out and buy it means that character is demonstrating her or his support of the trans character's identity.
It's great that such garments exist, because the alternative is less than desirous. It's also great that socks exists, because wearing hiking boots without socks is just a terrible idea all around. We don't need to send our supporting characters out sock shopping every time our protagonist announces his love of hiking, though.
Really, though, a binder is just something you wear so you don't look and feel ridiculous. And then you sweat and it smells like an old undershirt because, lo and behold it's an old undershirt!
