I am so so sick and tired of shows where a character who has some minority adjective (gay, black, or woman are the most common) attached IS the adjective and that's it. Sleepy Hollow doesn't jump up and down and wave its arms and scream OUR CHARACTER IS BLACK WE ARE GREAT! or OUR CHARACTER IS A WOMAN WE ARE SO FEMINIST!
Instead, it just has characters who go around fighting monsters and having wacky adventures with plastics and cars, and Abby's woman-ness and is no more a Thing than Ichabod's man-ness.

And it just so happens that working it our this way makes the characters more realistic and more fun to watch. And even though I'm usually a stickler for historical details, this is my new favorite show.

Exactly! I'm not super-picky about details on a tv show, but as goofy and utterly unreal as SH is, i LOVE IT. Because, yes - the characters are so much more real and likable and awesome.
