Re: shingeki no kyojin rant

Do I think Levi is abusive toward Eren in canon? No.

That said, I have a difficult time thinking of a way a romantic/sexual relationship between Levi and Eren wouldn't be abusive at this point in time. Eren clearly admires Levi, and, as the anon above pointed out, I think a big part of Levi sees Eren as a means to an end. If Levi and Eren entered into a romantic/sexual relationship, I really doubt they would be on the same page, and I think Levi would be aware of this. I think he would realize he was taking advantage of Eren's admiration toward him, and I think this would honestly be a darker interpretation of his canon self.

So yeah, ngl, I can't see romantic Levi/Eren at this point in canon without it being abusive. Anything else just seems OOC. You'd have to make Eren more emotionally mature than he actually is and/or have Levi care more deeply toward Eren than he actually does.

That said, just because I find it pretty much inherently abusive, I'm not going to shame you for it. I like ships that I consider rather emotionally abusive, so I can't really talk.

hah, well, I appreciate the lack of judging.

I guess the thing is, even going by your interpretation, even if Eren cares more than Levi, that doesn't necessarily mean that Eren's being abused. It's not /nice/, but I'm not actually sure it goes all the way to abusive.

The thing is, for fic purposes, you don't always necessarily assume that the deep caring already exists. If you can argue that Levi does hold some fondness for Eren (I think he does, but ymmv), a fic should be able to build on that and create a relationship where you /don't/ have the emotional imbalance. I'll repeat what I said below - imo this series is rather thin on characterization in the first place, so people have to build a lot of assumptions on their own. At that point, it's much easier for something that doesn't match to seem OOC to you.

I think a big question concerning how Levi feels towards Eren has to do with that one line from the latest chapter that everybody's been arguing over. I actually have plans to consult with Japanese friends about this, because I'm curious. The question of whether Levi put together this squad in order to help Eren out or manipulate him is pretty significant, and I imagine next chapter will also shine more light on their actual relationship.
I guess for me, I don't see Levi caring about Eren /less/ than any other of his men, so that's a start.
