I want a source too! If there's potential for the two main girls to actually be FRIENDS I may actually catch up on it in preperation?!!

Bryke said it somewhere, I think at CC? Unsure, but they did say it. Book 3 is about friendships, and Asami and Korra are going to get closer in 3.

My predictions: Asami is going to become the jealous girlfriend while building her 'friendship' with Korra. She will try at increasing lengths to keep Korra away from Mako. At the ending of s3, Mako will break up with Asami
