If it wasn't for the fact that dragons in Tolkien are all highly malicious, manipulative, and generally evil bastards, I could be persuaded to try a fluffy fic where Bilbo finds a dragon egg, it imprints on him in the manner of a gosling, and lolarious hijinks ensue. It wouldn't be Great Art, of course, even by fic standards, but it could be quite fun.

But add in Smaug's personality, and make it shippy, and ARGH NO DO NOT WANT!

See, I'd be fine with Bilbo/baby!dragon family fic as well.

Hell, Bilbo/adult!dragon slash fic... ehh, less enthused but I'm sure someone could make it work.

It's when the anthropomorphism, pedophilia, and incest elements get tossed in that the record scratches.

There's been fics like that already - one great story was about a sapphire Bilbo picked up and took home turning out to be a dragon egg and Bilbo raising the dragon to have Hobbit sensibilities and treating books and soft furnishings (pillows, blankets) as his treasure instead of gold.
