God, thank you. What the hell is wrong with liking Japan or wanting to learn Japanese for the sake of games and anime? It's a legit reason! I'm tired of all this "weeaboo" shit, too. Just because someone likes anime and/or is learning Japanese doesn't mean they're a fucking mindless, screeching, yaoi/yuri/het/whatever-the-gripe-of-the-week-is fangirl.

WORD. I liked Japan long before I discovered anime and manga, but the elitism and constant "weeaboo, weeaboo" shit is so annoying. I'm also sick of the "well, that's what the Japanese think" excuse being used to justify it when non-Japanese people use it to attack someone for one reason: while most people might giggle or smile at someone trying to adapt into their culture, any culture, and maybe even someone spectacularly failing at it, vitriolic hate is rather uncommon.

I once saw "think of what you think when you see someone trying to be American" used to justify that kind of argument, and it doesn't work, since I know most reasonable, non-bigoted people wouldn't feel rage, offense, and the need to viciously attack in that instance. Bemusement, maybe annoyance, but that would be it.

Personally, I wish people would not stereotype someone as mindless and stupid for their appearance, their gender, or what they write. Mainstream society stereotypes us enough in any culture, why do we need our own stereotypes and misunderstandings?

IAWTC!

I personally enjoy learning about the culture and I'd like to go visit, but it all originated from liking anime. And a grand majority of the reason is still b/c I love anime.

And I get sick with the finger-pointing and "weeaboo" shit as well.

Word. People like that are what made me decide to hold off learning Japanese until I lose interest in anime/manga. I don't see that happening anytime soon, so...

(And I swear, the next person who says "weeaboo" gets kicked in the shins. It's such an annoying word.)
