And for months or maybe years afterward, you wonder what you did to make them so mad and if you should have done anything differently. And then there's realizing that no, it wasn't your fault, that guy was just a fuckhead, and then worrying that the next one's going to do exactly the same thing.
So I can dig the retreating into an imaginary character to escape, but that's not going to do shit in the long term. The sooner she grows some balls and does what really needs to be done--getting the fuck away from the abusers--the better off she'll be.
But hey, if she just wants to mope around pretending she's a wizard and go "poor me, I am so helpless, there is nothing I can do about it, baw baw baw," that's her business.
tl;dr: been there, done that, have no sympathy for anyone who refuses to deal.
