Yeah...it happens. I mean, most people grow out of the things they like. Eventually you will get some new ones. And four years from now nostalgia will hit you, you will go back to reread some old fic, and think "This is terrible."

not related but i like that you comment nearly all the time.

I try and comment on ones that don't get responses. But often anon because I get self conscious about answering first on a lot of comments.

I honestly don't know if I believe this. Most of the people I'm friends with have remained interested in the shit they liked when I met them. I've been into some things for 15 years now and I don't see it changing anytime soon. Sometimes, you like what you like and you can like new stuff without stopping liking the old.

Yes, but you don't find yourself having highs and lows where you like something and then it sort of fades into the background and then it comes SURGING back.

Yeah, that's how it is for me. I have fandoms on rotation. All of a sudden, I'll see a gifset or rewatch an episode of one of my fandoms and all the love/excitement comes roaring back.

Or a new movie comes out.

I did that for a fic I had saved from my LotR early days. Ho boy! Some of the crud I read back then!
starphotographs: ...I'm not that bad, though. And I don't even light things on fire! Well, not regularly... (Izaya (devious))

Kind of off-topic, but "pastasheep" just makes me thing of a macaroni art sheep of some kind. It is a cute thought and I am kind of smiling to myself. :D

OP

(Anonymous) 2013-11-19 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
It's strange because it's never really happened to me before. I just get a little bored and get involved with other things, but still like my old ones. It's like I have a shelf in my head where I can put my old ships and once in a while I'll dust them off and revisit them. Now I just don't believe they characters belong together anymore and that makes me sad.

Re: OP

Aww, that happened to me once. But it was because I looked at my non-canon ship and just COULDN'T IMAGINE how the characters would actually get together. It was so disappointing.

Aww, don't be sad OP! It's totally normal to look back on old ships and realize you don't really ship them anymore, just like it's totally normal to stop liking characters you once loved and start liking characters you once didn't. Your perceptions and opinions are constantly changing and evolving, and that's a good thing!
