All of the characters were boring. The whole thing was explosions, more explosions, followed by another fight scene. There was next to no character development at all.

Are you sure you didn't accidentally watch Batman instead?

Possibly because they had 5 movies beforehand to do most of the development

(Or 6 or 4 depending on how or if you count the Hulk movies). The point is, this movie was a culmination and more about bringing a team together. Also, explosions, car chases, and fighting are pretty much what I look for in an action movie. Which it had, plus some nice character dynamics that I enjoyed.
