It depends on why it stuck with them.

Sometimes I can't remember why I liked something, just that I did. And there have been some pretty terrible things that I've gone back and read and been like, "I liked this?", but then I'll find it - the author somehow came up with an idea that perfectly explained something about a character or there was some really cool side plot or they had a better explanation than canon for something contradictory.

+1

Yup. There are a lot of reasons I might like a fic, and sometimes it has nothing to do with the quality of writing.

I'm like this. Usually I can't even remember the whole story, but bits and pieces of it have stuck with me for being good or interesting and I want to find them again.

I get this with witty comebacks and amusing quips. It doesn't matter how mediocre a fic is, if there is one clever line in it I will eventually think the rest was also good and go looking. Oftentimes it really, really isn't.

This is also why most of my fic-finder requests are quote based.
