I think Wilfred (who needs companion credit) should have been the one to close that chapter. The radiation-ravaged Doctor presses a note into Wilfred's hand. "Tell them goodbye for me," The Doctor says as he stumbles through the door of the Tardis. Harkness knows. Martha argues. Mickey overhears and leans against a wall.

The last scene is the eulogy to Donna. "An old acquaintance passed on. I don't know that I could call him a friend. But we served together, briefly, he saw a lot more of the war. Reckless but always managed to pull it off. He saved my life a few times. I'll never see him again."
