If you want to get nitpicky, yes, working digitally has the cost of the electricity and the computer, but you would be spending that money anyways if you listen to music while you painted a commission with oils.
On the other hand, you won't be buying oils unless you produce stuff with them.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-21 01:16 am (UTC)(link)What I believe is that for both digital fanartists and fanfiction writers, what you pay for is the effort, knowledge and acquired skill.
They do not have to pay for materials in the same sense that a traditional artist has to contemplate maybe running out of watercolor paper, but they do deserve payment for what they do.
I was told by someone else that my comment might be misleading to what I meant, but what I tried to say was that digital art and digital-only writing have the same kind of impact regarding costs for the person who is producing them.
