I keep all my comments so I can read them in one place, but it seems a bit silly to keep kudos. Just look at the fic occasionally and be happy about the number

I do the same thing. 'They like my writing! They really like my writing!'

Nothing wrong with keeping them. If it makes you happy it makes you happy. Don't be ashamed.

If I were you I would put them in a special folder though but that's just because I like an empty inbox.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-21 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
I keep 'em all, too! I have separate folders in my e-mail for kudos and comments, even.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-21 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
now I feel bad for not logging into my AO3 account. So many comments asking for updates and if I'm okay and I just don't have time to write an update and I feel bad that they're all hanging around D:

I keep them, partly because it's reassuring to see AO3 emails, but also because I am terrible at clearing my inbox.

I keep them too.

I'm lazy about clearing out my inbox, and they do make me smile when I'm having a block.

I keep all my reviews from FF.net. c: I'm glad I did cause one of my fics got deleted, but I still have the emails of the reviews.

I favorite whenever someone I like tweets me back and I have as my top bookmarks the two times Gillian Anderson replied to me on Reddit. Those are the things that can bring me up.

I used to look over old fic comments on LJ back in the day. There's no harm in that. It made me smile when I recalled what people liked about my fic.

I do that, too. I value all of the feedback my writing gets to a ridiculously sentimental degree.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-21 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
There are people who don't do this?

(Anonymous) 2013-11-21 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
A lot of us don't keep the kudos emails.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-21 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
I don't even read mine :p

(Anonymous) 2013-11-21 07:08 am (UTC)(link)
I know right. I just thought this was normal. Not that I ever talk to other writers about it.

LOL I thought I was the only one who did this. I still do it even though I'm not writing any more :P

(Anonymous) 2013-11-21 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
I get rid of the emails, but I collect all my reviews, favs, alerts, kudos, recs, likes and etcetera at the bottom of the story document. Whenever I need a boost, I go over the list to remind myself that I'm not wasting time if all those people enjoyed themselves for a little while because of me.

I used to do this when I was still writing, always thought I was the only one. This was before Ao3, so it was all on FF.net and various kink memes.

Actually, the other day I logged onto my old email account and found all the stuff from FF.net, it was just the push I needed (if people liked what 13-year-old me wrote, the stuff I'm writing now is probably fine.)

So yeah, it can do some good, even way down the line.

I keep them all, but I don't go back and look at them. I just like knowing they're there for some reason.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-21 07:04 am (UTC)(link)
Doesn't everyone?

I have a folder I call 'Accolades/FicComments' and EVERYTHING goes in there, including the kudos notifications when I get them. I try to pretend I'm all 'I don't mind if I don't get any kudos/hits/comments on a fic, even on an anonmeme one'

BUT THEN I KEEP REFRESHING THE PAGE for at least a day after. You know, just in case someone liked it. Lol.
melissatreglia: (Default)

There's nothing to be ashamed of, OP.

[personal profile] melissatreglia 2013-11-21 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I have a folder marked "Friends/Ao3" in my Gmail. All the kudos and comments I get go in there.

I put the FFnet reviews and follows I get in there, too. It's nice to pop it open and remember that my writing and posting fic isn't just a time-waster, when I'm feeling blocked/down and need a boost, but that people actually are interested.

"They like me! They really, really like me!"
