throwback!

(Anonymous) 2013-11-21 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
What childhood foods are surprisingly good, and which ones suck now that you're grown?

I had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for the first time in a while and really enjoyed it.

On the other hand, now I am spoiled by good-quality mac-n-cheese and can't stand the Kraft stuff.

Hah, yes, peanut butter and jelly. I feel like most of my adult life has been spent forgetting and then rediscovering how awesome a good PB&J is.

I still love spam. But I hate eating cold hot dogs. That used to be a thing I loved to do. Not any more. :|

Grilled cheese sandwiches. The incarnation of delicious.

Cheese doodles are the wrath, otoh, are the wrath of God for mankind's sins.

My favorite grilled cheese: Sharp cheddar shredded fresh off the block, horseradish spread, and just a little bit of sriracha, all on whole wheat bread. Serve with sweet potato soup or cashew carrot ginger soup if you can find them.

I tried Warheads again a few months back. I was so upset when they were too sour for me anymore.

Pixie Stix still rock, though.

Same deal with the Warheads for me. I couldn't handle it. I like Fun Dip, but it's not sold many places.

I used to eat Kraft singles grilled cheese sandwiches as a kid. I loved them. Then I got into the real cheese and now I can't go back to those oily, rubber yellow squares. Yuck.

Starting when I was about 17 or so, I can't tolerate milk chocolate the way I used to. I still like it sometimes (I like all chocolate), but my tongue gets sick of the sweetness.

Other than that, I like pretty much all the food I've always liked.

One of the big reasons I look forward to fall is Count Chocula, and PB&J is one of my go-to things when I get a sweets itch.

Oh, man. When i was a kid, mac-and-cheese (Kraft) was this once-in-six-months treat that we all just *loved*. Now, yes, it tastes like paste and ...salt. It's disgusting.

Jell-O. Jell-O was awesome when i was a kid, but later it seemed to just be gross and too sweet. Now i make it with a cup of water and a cup of juice instead of all water, and it's back to being awesome and tasty again.

I don't like coconut anymore. I don't know why.

I love that goldfish are still awesome.

I never stopped eating PB&J. They're awesome. I also make homemade beanie weenies, which is one of my comfort foods. Also love mac n'cheese (baked is best), Spaghettios, grilled cheese. I even bought fish sticks the other night cause I hadn't had them in forever and I loved them.

I can't think of anything I ate as a child that I don't still like.

...that's really funny because I was about to mention Kraft mac'n'cheese. I just ate some. It's the only kind of mac'n'cheese I like actually, since I really don't like cheese and fake cheese doesn't taste like cheese and idk I just think it's good and it's from my childhood

...but if I liked real cheese I'd probably feel the same way as you xD;

I'm the opposite. I've come to really dislike peanut butter. I don't even like the smell of it. (I also don't like any mac-n-cheese, even the "good" stuff.)

As a kid, I would've never eaten savory grits as we always ate them sweetened, but I like them now.

I still like Oreos, but I've switched from being all about the creme (Double Stuf was the only possible option as far as child-me was concerned) and being unimpressed by the cookie-part, to actively enjoying the cookie and finding the creme to be a little much. It's weird.

I will forever love shapes mac'n'cheese. Pokemon FTW! That and dino chicken nuggies.

But at the same time I don't eat nearly as much candy as I used to.

One of my favourite candies as a kid were Junior Caramels.

Picked up a box today, they're still good.

Never really stopped having it, but I just don't have it often - Toasted tomato sandwiches.

These days I can't stand canned spaghetti.

Fluffernutters are surprisingly good even though I hate peanut butter. For the bad- when I was a teen, I ate bread & italian dressing constantly. Disgusting.

Spaghetti-O's were once my craving, now I think the sauce they come in is horrendous.

I rediscovered my love for pistachio ice cream, though.

They don't sell Lucky Charms in my country, so my mum brought some back from her trip to the USA because they were my favorite childhood cereal, and I finished that box painfully fast.

I used to really love orange-juice, and now I rarely drink/enjoy it

Trix cereal will make me barf. Every time I've ever eaten it after the age of 16 I threw up. I guess that's what they actually mean by Trix are for kids.
Also, I loved Dr. Pepper as a kid and I can't stand it now.

Talk about PB&J... a couple months ago at back to school time I walked into a store that had displays of white "Wonder Bread" knockoffs and cheap peanut butter and grape jelly... I don't like white bread, and I don't like grape jelly, and I usually buy "nice" peanut butter that isn't half sugar and stuff... but darned if I didn't have a weird craving suddenly for a peanut butter and grape jelly sandwich on white bread.

Same kind of thing goes for cheese sandwiches made with Kraft Singles. The stuff is like eating orange wax. But... put it on cheap white bread and...

Well I think the thing is, growing up, my mom was a health food hippie type, so things like these with all the processing and added sugar kind of seemed like desserts, and I only ever had them when I was at friends' houses.

Amusingly enough, now that I've discovered dark chocolate, I don't think I'll ever really have cravings for candy involving milk chocolate anymore. Kind of the polar opposite of the above.
