I was taught penmanship, how to do basic plumbing and electrical repairs, how to manage my checking account and contra and ballroom dancing. So most of that list just seems a case of how you were brought up /educated more than a modern / old fashioned thing.

Skills I wish I managed to learn are sewing, knitting, the magic of being able to suddenly set up guests for an unexpected overnight stay at the drop of a hat, how to manage shopping so that staples are always at home.... and how to use curlers.
