Re: Roommate Rants
I only had two roommates in college; one in the first semester, one in the second. Then I moved off campus because:
First roommate (D) made friends with a girl from downstairs (S). D and I were pretty friendly with each other. One night, like a week in to the semester, we went to dinner together. Afterward, S said she wanted to go walk around. I assumed I was invited too since we were hanging out, but I started to turn and walk with them S says very nastily to me "No one was talking to you." D made excuses for her, saying S wanted to her alone. So, okay, I was hurt but I said okay and let them go. BUT, from then on S decided she didn't like me and no one could be friends with me. I'm not kidding. Everyone I was friendly with before (roommate and suitemates) were her friend and I wasn't ever invited to hang out. Honestly, I might have been able to make other friends in my dorm, but after that I was a bit angry and I closed myself off. All the friends I ended up making lived off-campus so I missed out on making friends with people I could just walk down the hall to see.
Later, D realized that S was a terrible person and she apologized to me for leaving me out and making fun of me behind my back, but I'm still pretty bitter about the whole thing almost ten years later.
We could switch roommates after the first semester, and D decided she wanted a new roommate. Which, left me in a lurch because I had no on campus friends. But, one day D told me a girl down the hall, R, didn't have roommate for the next semester either. I was wary, but sympathetic. I asked R's current roommate how she was as a roommate and she said she was okay. I asked around and no one really had good or bad things to say about her. R said her roommate just didn't like her, which I sympathized with.
R was really cool at first. I had thought I had found a friend, which was really exciting. There was a slight incident of another girl (R's old suitemate) coming to our door and accusing R of stealing her skirt. R insisted it was her skirt. I assumed the girl was just mistaken. But, then, one day the RA, head RA and the girl literally burst in the room (without knocking) while I was sleeping and started going through our closet, pulling out clothes R had stolen. They told me her thefts were an on going issue, and not to worry about it (despite my protests that I should have been told she'd been written up for this before moving in with her).
After that it just went downhill fast. R was convinced her friends were possessed by ghosts abd she'd have phone conversations with the ghosts at 1 am. Her friend/girlfriend tried to kill her and she may show up one day so I'd better be careful.
After R used my computer behind my back (and went through all my files) after I told her she couldn't use it while I was in class, I gave her a second chance. But, then she stole $100 from me and, mercifully, that was finally enough to get her kicked out. I spent a whole month in a room to myself and it was wonderful.

She and her friends performed a seance, against her grandmother's (who was powerful witch) wishes. Ghosts then possessed the bodies of her friends and her sister, but not her. The ghost in the body of her friend was in love with her sister. Also, the possession was killing her friend. R was deadly serious about this. She would have conversations with the ghost in her friend's body, telling it leave her sister alone. It was weird and creepy.
She was a pathological liar. She stole from everyone. Even got fired from several jobs because it. I ended up working at a place she worked at later after she had dropped out of school. People remembered her and told me she has told them she fucked my then boyfriend (now fiancé). He lived three states away and met her once, in my presence.
