I'm not talking about people, but their faith. I'm not a dick, I can think that someone's faith is retarded but that doesn't meant that I think that that person is stupid.

Actually, Hermann and Newton aren't in the same field (Hermann's a mathematician, Newton's a biologist), but I guess (this wasn't in the movie, but in... the novelization, or something) they corresponded and talked about their work.

there are some good kdramas, you just have to look beyond the trendies to cable shows and the like.

Re: Delicious

(Anonymous) 2013-11-22 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
Not since they deleted everything from this star trek one I used to go through.

Re: Also baseball

(Anonymous) 2013-11-22 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly this - a foul ball is always a strike but you can't strike out on one.

Also, if you bunt on strike 3, and it's foul, you're out (and it's considered a strike out IIRC). This is because, way back in the early days of baseball, there were guys who would just stay at the plate for a really long time bunting balls foul and wearing out pitchers, and everyone hated it. So they changed the rule.

Re: Shows that ended up being much better than your expectations!

GRIMM. I love it to pieces, and approached it with such total skepticism.

Also, Arrested Development. I like it much more than I thought I would from the bits and pieces I had read about it on the internet, though I'm not totally fannish over it.

You don't have to respect them but you can show that you know common social etiquette and know when to not say anything at all.

Jesus, I lived in a New Age heavy city. I didn't believe in any of that triangle power, rainbow aura thinking. But I also know that as long as people weren't hurting each other, they had every right to believe in it. And I had manners enough to keep my mouth shut when they told me that I had a "beautiful aura." Telling me that didn't hurt me one bit. So, why should I be a dick back to them?

Nope, it's a big grocery store so bathroom cleaning is reserved for the courtesy clerks. While there are a lot of awful things about being the peon, the bathrooms are definitely one of the worst.

"I scanned your testicles"

Oh hell fucking yes.

Also I think EVERYONE ships John/Dorian, at least so far.

It stems from a misguided sense of superiority and "enlightenment," honestly. When I was in high school I went through my "anti-Christian" phase where everything Christian was therefore evil and oppressive and I never hesitated to get on my high horse to tell the world what I thought. Then I grew up and realized what an incredible ass I was being towards the people who loved and cared about me. The internet gives people the shield of anonymity, so many people who have axes to grind against Christianity can expresses it without fear of real-world repercussions from friends, family, community, etc. Or they just never matured to the point when they are supposed to realize, hey, people can believe different things and that's ok.

Post story concepts

(Anonymous) 2013-11-22 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
Hey anybody have some interesting concepts for writing stories that they want to share? Stuff they're working on and the like? Story premise, or concepts?

Re: Being Human...anybody else watching?

YES, holy fuck, that scene was hilarious, i was giggling like an idiot.

Re: DVR and Ratings

(Anonymous) 2013-11-22 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
It depends on the system, and sometimes it counts a bit, but mostly not much.

The reason it doesn't count is because the fundamental function of ratings is not really to figure out how many people are watching a show, it's to figure out how many people are watching the ads, and therefore how much the ads are worth. And people watching DVRs usually don't watch the ads. So TV execs just kind of don't really care if people are watching on DVR.

This is actually changing somewhat, as are some of the ways that shows are funded and financial models, but it's still mostly true for broadcast shows especially.

It's funny because I saw the subject, thought of Almost Human, then was disappointed when I realized it said Being Human.

We are talking about the same people that created the Inquisition and burned women in case they were witches. What did you expect.

Re: Time (some weird ass physics, man)

[personal profile] siofrabunnies 2013-11-22 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
I usually here the phrase when someone's talking about the perception of time. During times of high emotion (trauma, joy, etc) time feels slower because of adrenaline and what else have you.
