Here's my take on it. The ability to not only come up with but also wholeheartedly believe in an unprovable thing like Heaven demonstrates just how incredibly brilliant and awesome human minds are.
And remember that heaven doesn't have to be the one professed by today's Catholics or Protestants. Pretty much every major religious system includes some kind of existence after death. It's a human impulse, not a Christian thing.

Vash is an Angel

If this will let me post... I don't have an LJ anymore, just browsing through here because I'm bored and saw this - fellow Trigun fan.

Don't worry. When you think about it, Vash is an angel, of sorts. Also, if you have a view of Heaven as being a place made up of anything you want / need it to be, maybe he'll be there.

As soon as I saw the secret, I knew that it would be swarming with asses screeching at you that "Heaven isn't real." Don't listen to them. As far as I'm concerned, the mind makes a lot of things real for us and what happens at death is a mystery. There's plenty of testimony by people who've almost died that say that at least some of us have brains that will give us euphoric experiences as we are going out. If you really cease to exist after that, how are you going to know? I think when you're dying, if you "see Heaven" and happen to see Vash there, you aren't going to care either way. And there's shouldn't be any shame in believing in a place you may or may not see... as I see it, the only people who are "wasting their lives" are those who feel the need to go around telling others that they are "wasting their lives."

A helpful tidbit for people who are only here for the wank and don't actually know the fandom:

Vash the Stampede is a descendant of a race of beings (the Plants), which have some angelic symbolism about them. It shows up more in the manga than in the anime. They are occasionally referred to in "angel" terms there and have feathers/wings/weird feather-hair and are actually really freaky looking, multi-limbed creatures that seem to play on the historical tradition of "freaky" angels of mysticism and the weirder parts of the Bible moreso than on the knick-knacks at your grandma's house. Vash also as a genetic-type of weapon latent in his body called the Angel Arm - a nuclear/light canon that bears a resemblance to a four-faced angel.

Real-world religious ideas aside, In Trigun canon, Vash is member of a race of beings that are kind-of angels. Therefore, perhaps the op wasn't trolling and was having one of those "I wish this character were real" sighs and thought about "an angel that my church says won't be in Heaven."

(Or the op might have been a troll that just knew that mentioning words like "Heaven" would call trolls and wank like pigs to a trough of slops).

FIRST OF ALL, SERIOUSLY PEOPLE?
How can so much wank just suddenly appear? NO I AM NOT RELIGIOUS, but yeah I believe there is a place for us after we die. I dont mean "Cloud Palace Full Of Singing Angels And Harp Music" I mean, "A Peacefull Place To Rest And Party With Your Friends And Family"
WHATEVER FORM THAT MAY BE.
Im inclined to believe that heaven is whatever you make of it. Like rock music? BAM AC/DC concerts 24/7. LIKE TO READ? BAM complete acess to every book ever written. YOU GET THE PICTURE? And if there really IS nothing out there after we I die, then it wont matter cuz I wont exist anymore to feel sad about it anyway.

You actually took my concern seriously and were kind enough to offer a few words of encouragement to try to make me feel better. THANK YOU. I love Vash to bits and after finishing the series I hit this horrible depression of "Why cant people like him exist? Why cant /HE/ exist?" And It made me feel awfull cuz he is just a character created by a brilliant man, and I would never be able to actually meet him or tell him "Thanks for being you." AND BEYOND THAT "Thanks for teaching me that no matter what has happened to you, you can become a better person and move on." It makes me so happy to know that some people feel the same and are kind enough to try to help, SO THANK YOU, YOU WONDERFULL PEOPLE YOU.
THIRDLY,
Immediately after submitting this, I realized that HEY HE'S IMMORTAL and could still be kicking about somewhere, if I chose to believe it. And just maybe, he inspired people to become better people and through that became a real force and teacher. He tought me its O.K. to let people see your pain and that its possible to forgive those that hurt you and move on. And he tought me that sometimes, shit happens and we are left scarred for it, but it doesnt have to define who we are.
Ive been abused for half my life.
To see someone like me become great and even /kind/ was a godsend and probably kept me from suicide. He helped me to realize that its okay to trust again and its okay to forgive those who hurt you. And I will be ever-gratefull for that.
YEAH HE'S A FICTIONAL CHARACTER. But DAMMIT he helped me in ways that no one else has, and probably never could. So I think a little one-on-one with him would be amazing. I just want to tell him thanks. And, who knows? Maybe I can, cuz thats what hope is all about.
Believing in the impossible.
