I think I know where the blood idea came from. When the headmistress put the kid onstage in front of the whole school and put the cake in front of him, the other children were trying to guess what the "punishment" was, and one of them speculated that it had been baked with blood or something else nasty in it. That was before they realized that the punishment was to eat the entire enormous thing.

Teal deer says, "there's a difference between intent and circumstance"

First, you can watch a show/read a book/listen to a song/see a movie and not agree with the person who creates it. I watched Doctor Who long after I gave up on Steven Moffat ever writing a female character who doesn't completely submit her personality to the Doctor, and I intend to keep doing that and complaining about it because I'm pretty sure after three female characters in that same pattern that he's not going to change regardless of how much I complain.

As far as the complaining instead of speaking directly to the comic creator: who wants to offend? People attribute other people's actions to intent and their own actions to their circumstances (I didn't see the car I cut off because my phone rang and I was distracted, but the car that cut me off, well, the driver's an asshole!) The readers are probably thinking that Shive does it on purpose, and they don't want to offend him with accusations and they don't think he'll change.

I don't think it's so much I mis-remembered things from some movies as when I watched them as a child I didn't understand some of the lines, or what the lines actually meant.

Prime example is Star Wars - there's all sorts of lines through all three of the original movies - particularly RotJ, which I watched the most of the three, even if I favour ESB more - that I didn't get properly.

I didn't even get the whole point of the fact that Luke and Leia were siblings for a very long time - or that Leia ended up with Han.

I have never really used it before, but recently someone asked for a link to a fic I mentioned here and Delicious was the way I found it.

Re: Shows that ended up being much better than your expectations!

Rin and Haruka? You focused on them?

You're watching the show wrong!

it's all about Nagisa and that yaoi fangirl. and that guy in the butterfly swimsuit. (sorry, the show ended like a month ago, names have been forgotten)

(Anonymous) 2013-11-22 06:28 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, my first thought if someone had a dog daemon would be that they're more likely than average to hump inappropriate things, not that they're servile and boring.

I'm lucky it hasn't gotten cold enough, yet, to have ice past 8am. It would have spelled disaster running to the bus these last two days.

This. In that way it's a little like Oglaf, I'm not sure I could fap to that either.

Re: Pokemon Team

[personal profile] ryttu3k 2013-11-22 06:44 am (UTC)(link)
XD It amuses me greatly. I'm pretty sure the gift Lapras is set up like that, to always have a Docile nature and perfect HP IVs (just like the Tower Lucario will always be Hasty with perfect speed IVs), but Ursula was pure coincidence - and Jacques even moreso, since baby Pokemon caught in the wild always have three, and one of his was HP, and THAT was the one they got the characteristic off! (Unfortunately, HP is kind of wasted on a Roserade, heh. His others are Defense, which is ALSO wasted, and... Speed, I think? Which is nice!)

Those are nice headcanons :) I love working out the interactions between Pokemon - I did the same for my second run through White, too. (Ganon the Emboar is the Dad of the team - Naughty nature, which has tempered with age into... well... Dad jokes. He dotes on the younger ones, but especially Mirabelle the Lilligant and Sammy the bashful female Scrafty, who are also BFFs. Jellybaby the Reuniclus is quiet and calm and level-headed, despite also being one of the younger ones, and Ellie the Eelektross is a tiny spitfire who's a little bit spoilt, thanks to the others babying her when she was a Tynamo (read: evolved solely through use of her leading with a Lucky Egg then being switched out). And Goose the Golurk just... perplexes... everyone. Impish nature. I interpret that as poltergeist :D

Re: The plot of Supernatural

(Anonymous) 2013-11-22 06:47 am (UTC)(link)
They have good ratings, considering the network they're on here in the States. It's the longest running show on their network right now. It's the reason they've been renewed to season nine. Has it been on a regular network (CBS, NBC, ABC, Fox) it MIGHT get season two, but definitely not more (and I'm a fan of the show).

A lot of the reason the show doesn't get covered in mainstream infotainment is because the show is filmed in Vancouver, Canada. Although occasionally they pop up, they're not in LA, so it's tough to get stories on them done.

I've seen it a lot since moving to big-city Canada. I see elementary schoolers getting on the bus with their (discounted, the fuckers) bus passes. You know, little knots of three and six kids, but still on their own! It was shocking.

if you got that why did you say that op didn't see him in his pirate get up?

It will be in a week or so.

Yet another summer on the horrible humid coast of Australia with no air-conditioning.

Just shoot me now please.

Re: demisexuality

(Anonymous) 2013-11-22 07:15 am (UTC)(link)
As someone who would technically be 'demisexual' if I felt that was a valid label, #2 is exactly my problem with it.

Sexuality is this huge spectrum of levels and types of desire. A-, Homo-, Hetero-, Bi-, these all have really clear and concise meanings. But, demisexuality? Half-sexuality? Half of WHAT, exactly? Where are you dividing the spectrum among people who feel attraction exactly once in their life to people who get aroused by everyone they meet? How are you deciding what's "average", and by who's measure?

Because I feel pretty fucking average and I've only been sexually attracted to the handful of people I've fallen in love with. And I think people who get aroused by total strangers are pretty average, too. Do I have half of their sexuality? Since I'm actually BIsexual, no. Do I have half their sexual drive? No, I have a pretty high sexual drive, it just happens to revolve around a specific person. Will I have half the sexual partners of the average person? Since the data I just looked at said 25% of women reported having no more than one partner in their lifetime, no.

So, where exactly is this 'half' coming in? What exactly is differentiating me from other people, other than the things that I'm personally attracted to? What makes demisexuality different than 'manly men with beards-sexuality' or 'people who make me laugh a lot-sexuality'?

I have this idea about a spaceship run by a sentient super-computer, and when bad shit starts to happen onboard, the crew immediately suspect it to be the culprit. It's not, and while it understands why they would jump to that conclusion, it's still kind of hurt by their accusations. Fortunately for the rest of the ship, it can help them stop the real bad guy and compu-sulk at the same time.

Re: demisexuality

(Anonymous) 2013-11-22 07:27 am (UTC)(link)
Considering the anon above you said "It purposely sounds like homosexuality or even asexuality," I'm gonna take a guess and say they're fine with the term asexual.

Canadian here, for me it was pretty much, "You're tall enough to reach the fare box? Off you go! Hope you don't get lost!" But if it was really cold (like -30), I could call and ask for a ride from the train station. Assuming I had a quarter. In hindsight, it's kind of shocking, I suppose.

Say you're mostly ace. Or say you're gay/straight/bi/whatever and really really picky. Being picky is a good thing, it means you know what you want and are willing to hold out for it.

I've had a Sigilyph on my team for three games now so he's an old friend to me. I can even remember the names I gave them all. I fell in love with their design from the first moment I came across one and they've saved my arse plenty of times.

Blaziken does look like he thinks the world of himself! Fitting that Spritzee should be the caretaker since they're designed after plague doctors. I think that's such a cool design choice for something so cute and fluffy as Spritzee

All these later and certain episodes of ER are still like a punch in the gut.

This is one of those.
