Never seen this show, but I think intense medical decisions combined with gray morality are very interesting in fiction. What happened in this episode?

The main character of the show (it turned into an ensemble in later years), lost a patient with pre-eclampsia.

oooh

Did he do everything in his power to save her? If so, I don't understand why it would be an unpopular opinion that he did the right thing

If I'm remembering correctly, nobody could find the obstetrician that was supposed to be there, and Mark ended up doing a C-section, even though he kind of only sort of remembered how from his med school days. At one point he asks what could have been seen as a rhetorical question (just how the first slice is supposed to go) and I think it's one of the ER nurses who says "Are you asking me?" and he says "I'm asking God."

ohhhh dang. yeah. that adds more to it, definitely.

Sounds to me like he was just desperately trying to do the right thing, the only thing that might save her life. Was there wank over the bit about "asking God"?

I was your anon above, but just hadn't bothered to log in yet. I don't remember a ton of wank, but this was an episode that aired in 1995, so it's possible I'm not remembering it. Plus there just weren't as many people talking online nor places to talk as there are now, so...yeah, IDK I guess is the short answer.
