Basics (from flawed memory of a show watched over a decade ago): A woman comes into the ER because something feels off with her pregnancy. Dr. Green, in his only real mistake, misreads the baby's size and tells her things should be fine. He pages OBGYNs, but they never come see the patient.
Over time, mother's symptoms get worse and Green does what he can to save the mother and the child, constantly paging for an OBGYN, but one never comes.
Eventually, he has to perform an emergency C-section and the mother dies, but the baby lives.
OBGYN finally shows up and blames everything on Green.
I agree that it wasn't his fault. He made one error, but a lot happened at once and he had no OBGYN to help him even a little through what turned out to be major, major complications. It was incredibly sad. He did what he could and I didn't fault him.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-22 01:46 am (UTC)(link)Was his estimate of the baby's size even a mistake, though? He used a specific and accepted method for calculating it, iirc. It just wasn't accurate. I remember being outraged that he was blamed for any of what happened.
