Malinda Lo

Has anyone here read her books Ash and Huntress? Does it matter which order I read them in? I know chronologically in the story Huntress is first, being the prequel, but Ash was written first so I'm just wondering if it makes a difference with spoilers or anything.

I've read them both. It doesn't matter what order you read them in. They take place in the same world, but otherwise they aren't related at all.

I'd personally recommend reading Ash first because it's so much better. If I'd started with Huntress, I probably wouldn't have bothered with Ash.

Thank you! I ordered both but only Huntress has arrived, so I was debating whether to wait or jump in. I'll go ahead and wait the extra day or two for Ash to show up.

Just wondering, why do you prefer Ash? I've been looking at both and was leaning towards starting with Huntress.

Personally, I would read them in the order they were written. A friend had me do that for a series and a prequel, with the prequel trilogy written between books 2 and 3 of the main series, and it rocked. I understood more of the references in the main series better, and got to see the actual progression of writing. The fact that the tangential trilogy turned out to be my favorite in her series was merely circumstantial...
