Forum help?

(Anonymous) 2013-11-23 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Does anyone have any tips or ideas on how I can get my guild active on our forums and website? It's been set up for a few months now and in the start everyone checked in and was posting, but now it's died down and I'm pretty much the only one signing in daily to check. I've tried posting a few discussion threads or links, but nothing. Is it a lost cause? Is it just a matter of mentioning it every time I'm in-game? I don't want to pester people but I do want them to use the site.

The guild (for an MMO) has twice weekly guild runs and we have people who play every day and active players, but for some reason we just can't seem to get people getting to and posting to the site.

I hate to say it but if you'd tried this 5 years ago you'd have better luck. Unfortunately MMOs seem to be dying out in popularity and that means most people aren't as invested in the whole guild thing anymore.

You can keep trying, and it's clear that everyone knows they're part of the guild, but actually getting them to post on a forum is probably a lost cause. Sorry. :(

(What game?)

Also forums have been dying in popularity too. Maybe try a different platform to communicate on?

Yeah, definitely that too.

Do you have any suggestions for different platforms? Facebook and Tumblr are a no-go and I'm not really sure what else is out there for this type of thing.

How do you feel about twitter?

I had one at one point but never used it. Never thought about using it for guild stuff. I'll talk with the other officers in the guild and see what they think.

OP

Unfortunately I think you're right.

It sounds to me like your guild is running just fine without the forum, though? What are you even using it for that can't be handled through guild chat and PMs?

The original thought was to increase the sense of community and get to know everyone better, and to help organize events. Right now it's 'word of mouth' in the game with officers trying to make sure everyone's aware of what's going on. We thought a forum would be a more central location, but it's ended up where we're having to repeat everything in-game still because nobody checks the site.
