May I ask why you think it's annoying if women get into comics because they like a ship? I'm honestly not trying to be passive-aggressive or anything, I'm just honestly curious.

as someone who loves the MCU in all its convoluted history and craziness

it took me more time than it should to realize you meant MU and the c was a typo, i kept wondering if the mcu had gotten convoluted already (i've only watched two of the movies).

Yes, that actually makes perfect sense and I now totally get where you're coming from! And thank you for answering me, I was worried that my question sounded too.. idk... mean/defensive? Because tbh my interest in comics only got sparked because I enjoyed this one ship/friendship (I love it in every which way, haha) in the MCU so much that I wanted to learn more and then I ended up discovering so many other great characters and stories and yeah well :D

I've run into the 'series gets a new installment, cue ten thousand shippers flooding the fandom' thing a few times now. This is a really nice way to explain why it can be annoying, even if it's not a bad thing.

I'm one of those women who got into comics after the Avengers. Yes, I love Steve/Tony (and the team dynamic as a whole), but mostly I'm just overwhelmed with where to start with reading the comics. I've read a lot of Civil War and really enjoyed it, and I've put some of the 2005-2006 New Avengers stuff on my Amazon wishlist (hey, Santa, I've been good!) but otherwise I'm a bit lost. If you have any recommendations of good places to get into the Marvel universe, I'd be really grateful! I really want to get into the stories and know more about them than what I've seen in the movies.

Not sure what your finances are like, but if you'd really like to get into marvel stuff, I'd recommend Marvel Unlimited. It's essentially like a marvel comics netflix. You can either pay a yearly or monthly fee, with the yearly being cheaper in month per month terms. They certainly don't have everything, but they have a lot, especially in terms of recent stuff (like last decade-ish). I got into marvel comics for pretty much the same reasons you are saying, and I started with Iron Man Extremis, and read on from there, Captain America Winter Soldier, and on from there, and read New Avengers from the beginning, which are all good starting places. It's much easier and cheaper, in the long run, if you are going to read a lot, however, to get the unlimited subscription. And hey, you may be surprised by what you like, I went in one of the OP's derided shippers, and now a year later, I'm very much an X-Men fan who isn't that big on the Avengers.
