I think I missed what the SJW is about? I found out about the show through tumblr but I've not really been in fandom

Take this with a lot of grains of "I can't stand any of these people so am really not objective" salt, but...

Basically Sterek fans on tumblr especially are the majority and many of them can be quite overbearing in their enthusiasm about their ship, which is composed of two white dudes so gets negative SJ points right there. Then you also had a thing going around (probably still, but in less frequency now) where Scott would get called a potato which, frankly unbeknownst to MOST people, has been used as an ablist slur. PLUS Scott is played by a POC actor and even though there has never been a lick of a reference to the character's ethnicity in canon, the actor has said he considers Scott a POC and fanon holds him to be a POC, so that's a big deal given he's the lead of the show.

So imagine really rabid, overwhelming, and frequently disrespectful-of-boundaries shippers of the Two White Dudes pairing spilling into things like the Scott tag or the Scott/whoever tag where a lot of anti-Sterek and/or Scott fans (many POCs themselves) do not want their shit and are willing to say so.

THEN you also have the shit the actual show pulls, such as killing off women and minorities disproportionately, letting almost all the white male villains survive, debateably engaging in queerbaiting, Jeff Davis being a pouty manchild with issues, Sterek fans showing even less awareness of socially appropriate behavior and respect for the fact that the actors are not their playthings TO THE ACTORS' FACES than they show in clashes with non-Sterek fans......

Teen Wolf fandom is a mine field of having to watch everything you say if you don't want to be accused of being a racist, ablist, sexist, a misogynist, suffering from internalized misogyny, or whatever the latest popular SJ accusation happens to be.
