I've realized that I have a penchant for using the "Arieth and Bob" trope

you realize in your writing you have an addiction to using the Arieth and Bob tropes or other wise just choosing really odd names for characters (not made up just uncommon)

In my main work it's mostly normal names, a few perhaps sounding odd because they're from other countries.

In another it's part of the plot , where there's a bunch of kids working as bandits for their dwarf 'mother' and they're all named for numbers.

and then this other story where it's just straight up characters with quirky names partly because of the society where that kind of thing is normal and partly because of author appeal.

Would this make people write off my work as bad?

nah

you gotta not worry about that shit and let the work speak for itself

if it helps I have a town called PORSTMOUGH in SWEATERVEST COUNTY. I'm gonna make it work.

That sounds awesome.

I think I just find myself doing quirky names as an author appeal thing. I have fun with it, and while I'll try to do it well and make it work, I'll be damned if I'm not going to have fun with it. Because I write for fun.

Sorry yo, I forgot I had replied to this thread.

Yeah. I gotta remember to have fun. Everyone should remember to have fun.

Heh, that reminds me of a story that a high school friend wrote. It took place in a small desert town called Trachea Flats, and he reasoned quite rightly that it was no more ridiculous than the names of several actual towns in Arizona.
