They are both pretty awful looking but Mads is worst looking to me.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-27 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't find either of them attractive, but they both make pretty awesome villains. It's as good a reason as any for liking a show, OP!

Somewhat related - am I the only person who was kind of disappointed by Silence of the Lambs? It followed the book exactly, and... IDK, I just expected them to do something more with it?

(I still think Clarice Starling is awesome, though. And, of course, Anthony Hopkins is a good actor.)

(Anonymous) 2013-11-27 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
They're both awesome as Hannibal, but I don't think it's shallow to prefer Mads. Mads is so much closer to the Hannibal in the books, imo.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-27 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. I think that holds true for a lot of people - an attractive outer appearance makes a less-than-attractive personality go over a lot smoother, I guess.

Hopkins vs. Mikkelson? Well, Anthony Hopkins may be older, but IMO they're about equal on the attractiveness scale. (Not bashing Mikkelsen, I just find Anthony Hopkins compelling.)

(Anonymous) 2013-11-28 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
Hopkins is compelling.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-27 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I... profoundly fail to understand your preferences, but believe that you are entitled to them. Enjoy, OP. You can like whatever shows you like for whatever reason you like.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-28 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
Look at some old photos of Hopkins - he was once pretty hot, too.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-28 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
This secret is the best argument ever in support of that supposedly-silly "villains must be played by ugly people and heroes by pretty people" Hollywood cliche that everyone says is insulting to the audience's intelligence.

I guess the audience's intelligence really is that low. The insult isn't undeserved at all.

Hello? Miley Cyrus is currently leading Time's Person of the Year online poll. Of COURSE the audience's intelligence really is that low.

Yup.

I find something so ridiculously cute about Mads Mikkelsen. Which is weird because he has this creepy, angular face and those weird overly red lips. But when he smiles and talks in interviews....he's just really, really cute.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-28 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
In interviews and behind-the-scenes stuff he just seems to radiate good cheer.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-28 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
There's something... dad-like about him.

You're not just shallow, you are also wrong. Hopkins has got the kind of charming smile thing going on, while that other guy has greasy hair, squinty eyes, and a weak chin. He looks more like a retarded than he does a psychopath. Less Hannibal Lecter and more Hannibal Window Licker.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-28 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, you even manage to make opinions I otherwise agree with unbearably obnoxious. That's an accomplishment (for some values of the word).

They both play a cannibal - that's about one of the biggest turn-offs for me so I wouldn't care if the actors were super hot, it would still be disgusting to me.

Shallow much. yes.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-28 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, I don't find either one that attractive, but if I had to choose one I'd definitely go for Hopkins. The other guy's facial proportionas are all out of whack. Every time I see him I itch for my Create-A-Sim controls so I can move everything below his eyes up several clicks.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-28 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
I'm the exact opposite. Hopkins is sexy and makes the role sexy but I think Mikkleson is very unattractive. To each their own!

I don't find Mads attractive but he is definitely interesting looking, which really adds to the whole eerie/otherworldly vibe that Hannibal has. I find him fascinating to watch.

Well, I'll agree with you about the hotness, even if most people here never do. I love the movie, but I remember all the hype when it came out about how scary he was. I got to the fava beans and chianti part with the slurpy noise and about died laughing. He just played it really broadly and did that weird Katharine Hepburn accent, and it was entertaining, but yeah, I prefer Mads, too.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-29 01:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I really have no preference for their physical appearance, but Hopkins has a seductive voice that gives me the shivers good way while Mads' mush-mouth makes me long for the relief of fingers on a blackboard.
