Thirding this. The modern adaptations miss so, so, much by stripping away the Victorian layer.

...yeah, or maybe I've just read too much Baring-Gould....

IA personally, although I don't have any problem with other people liking modern-day updating. I just feel a bit forlorn in my absurdly strong love of all those teeny-weeny little awesome Victorian details.

Canon fandom is alive and well and loving all those things too. No need to be forlorn, although I do understand the feeling that BBC Sherlock has taken over the known universe. The unknown awaits, patiently, for the fuss to die down.
