Now is ranty time, ranty time...

(Anonymous) 2013-11-28 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
This person on my Tumblr dash wrote a huge long post today about how MCU Loki "isn't a dude".

Look, I don't give a fuck how many "genderqueer Loki feels" you have, Loki's gender identity isn't stated in canon one way or another, so no, he's not canonically genderqueer, fuck off with your fetishising of my gender identity.

What fanon pisses you off, f!s?

I don't really care what people's headcanons are, but for some reason when they start insisting that it's actual canon it annoys me. IDEK.

He is canonically male. Even when he possesses Sif's body, Loki refers to himself as male. He also loathes being in a woman's body. Loki is also pretty much a misogynist (in Marvel verse).

"Everyone knows Sherlock Holmes is and has always been asexual."

Um no. I mean, nothing in canon to contradict the idea that he was asexual, but nothing in canon to contradict the idea that he was gay/straight/bi either. The only sure thing in canon regarding his asexuality is that he was generally uninterested in romance.

Re: Now is ranty time, ranty time...

(Anonymous) 2013-11-28 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
This. It's easy to see that married life - and such a married life as to fulfill the social expectations of the time - would cramp Holmes' style. I'm cool with the asexual interpretation, but I can totally see him as straight but with a low libido or seeing prostitutes (probably what Doyle intended), or gay and closeted, or bi and some combination of the above.

I like it, but yes, it certainly isn't canon (and some people are very insistent about it). I totally understand why some people don't like it.

Agreed, although I'm more annoyed that it's so prevalent. (My interpretation of Cecil having a third eye is that he has a sixth sense of sorts: he's got a strong intuition and he uses that to his benefit.)

"Dean is bisexual!"

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF-

Just. Shut up. Stop parading your Destiel ship around as though that has any meaningful impact on the lives of bisexual people. Stop acting as though you get extra social justice brownie points for shipping two guys together.

If you really want to help the bisexual community, there are a million other ways to do it, that don't involve fucking Supernatural fandom. FFS.

Bonus annoyance: "Because Cas said he's 'utterly indifferent to sexual orientation,' this clearly means he has no orientation or preferences of his own (unless it's for Dean) and should be equally attracted to everyone."

Fanon that pisses me off? Hmmm, nothing in fanon pisses me off. Oh! There is something that makes me disappointed. It's Night Vale fandom. Cecil can literally be anything you want and... for all of that people tend to be very unimaginative about him. It's the same two or three headcanons over and over. But yeah, I'm not angry. I'm just kinda disappointed in the wasted opportunity.

Abusive Thor and Odin towards poor bb!Loki makes me gnash my teeth, also anyone insisting that the stories for Norse myth Loki are canon for MCU Loki(usually regarding Loki's children). Like they're cool stories and all, and I have no problem with people incorporating them in fic for fun, but stop telling me they're canon. They're not(some of them are in the comics, but as of yet we don't know how much of that has gone over into the MCU. Heck we may never know).

Corpse Party: Kizami isn't really a bad guy! Sure, he's a textbook sociopath and murders most of his classmates and tries to murder a little girl, but he has a split-second desire to use pity for said girl as a means to try to figure out human emotion! BECAUSE HE LITERALLY HAS NO CLUE WHAT EMOTIONS ARE, AND HAS NEVER FELT PITY BEFORE. See, he's not totally evil!

Also, the typical 'this character is a monster/a wuss' in Attack on Titan. Most of fandom is good in noticing the shades of gray, but the people who don't ...

I don't like how that so many Destiel fans think Dean/Castiel being together is canon. I like it as much as the next person, but every time little thing either of them do is not a damn parallel or indication they are in twu luv.

I also have one...but I might make that a secret for next week.

Somewhat general complaint: In the absence of explicit canonical material, picking really boring, cliched, predictable, stereotypical assumptions to fill the gaps rather than exploring the possibility of unique, thoughtful, clever, unexpected explanations to fill the gaps.

Damn, I hate this whole "Intersex!Loki is canon because he's Jotun and all Jotun are like that teehee". And the fact that M-preg, genderbending, trans and intersex Loki are so popular that people don't even bother to tag it properly anymore.

(Mostly from Ritchie-verse fans): Watson marrying Mary totally means that either a) Watson is being mean and abandoning Holmes, or that b) Holmes was treating Watson badly and Watson is leaving him because of it, or that c) their friendship had collapsed (perhaps in conjunction with b)) and that's the only reason he considered getting married.

Because you know, it's totally unreasonable for a man to be comfortably best friends with another man, fall in love with a woman, assume that this is great - he's got a romantic partner in addition to a bff - and then get annoyed when said best friend makes constant snide remarks, insults his girlfriend, pesters him to not get married, tries to sabotage his romantic relationship, and generally behaves like their friendship is somehow over and that it's impossible for married people to have friends.

I mean, if you're interpreting it from the shipping perspective for a scenario in a fic where Watson was in a romantic relationship with Holmes and then dumped him for Mary, that's one thing. But otherwise, even in a Holmes/Watson shipping context, there's no reason to claim any of those assumptions are canon.

I guess it doesn't piss me off, but it does puzzle me that people think Sailor Cosmos is Sailor Moon from the future. I know the ultimate answer from the author is "*SHRUG* IDK LOL" but there's a reason she can't be the Sailor Moon we know and love--because versions of the same person from the past and future can't come into contact or else time and space 'splodes. That was why Neo-Queen Serenity couldn't ever see her in person, and why the Silver Crystals of the past and future couldn't touch, and why Pluto died to keep it from happening.

It's possible that she's *A* Sailor Moon, but she's probably not Usagi given earlier important events in the story.
