Frankly, I think the RDJ version is, too. It's too far removed from the essential character of Holmes that even Moffat's version is closer to the target. That's just embarrassing.

Shhh. It's one of those people who have thing odd compulsion to bring up the stuff they don't like in every unrelated conversation under the flimsiest of pretexts so that they can whine about it again. Yeah I know, they're kind of embarrassing to see.
