Eh. It's not that weird, there's a fairly plausible explanation for it (in terms of power dynamics and all that kind of thing), and even if there weren't, people are weird sometimes, no point worrying about it.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-30 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
That's an interesting thing to thing about. Thanks for expressing your thoughts. I'm not the OP just find this an interesting thought, and decided to be polite on the internet and tell you. :)

*think about

sorry! haha

I honestly can't tell whether or not you're being sarcastic.

So, thanks!

Yeah, this. I feel the same thing, OP, and it's all got to do with power dynamics. Vulnerability is way more enjoyable on men, at leas to me.

Who are these characters? I have a vague feeling that I should know and will be like "duh!" when I find out, but I can't think of it.

The Granada versions of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-30 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
Granada? Specifically? How'd you come up with that? They hardly look like the actors, and doesn't Holmes stand around creeping on Watson in his sleep in every universe?

Thanks for clearing that up!

I thought it was probably a Holmesverse but my brain seems to be stuck on BBC Sherlock at the moment... I thought maybe it was Mycroft checking out newly-resplendent-in-griefstache sleeping!Watson.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-30 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
Does that mean you'd be okay with a vampire-looking guy staring at you while you sleep if you were a guy?

(Anonymous) 2013-11-30 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty sure that's Sherlock Holmes.

I can't tell if this is just a "perving on him in his sleep" pic or a "contemplating yanking off his covers and raping him" pic. The distinction is fairly relevant to your secret, OP.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-30 07:35 am (UTC)(link)
It is definitely the former, sadyna isn't into the nasty stuff at all.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-30 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't say some of the things I like m/m but not m/f are romantic one way, but I can stomach a lot more. For m/f relationships where the m is the one being creepy, dominating or abusive, I get majorly squicked and grossed out. If it's two guys, I think it's sexy.

In real life, so not cool. But I'm a woman, idk, I guess there's a thousand essays written about how women who like yaoi can disconnect from their gender, not feel threatened and still identify with usually the "uke"... whatever.

Oh my god I think I remember the comic this pic is cropped from. Can anyone get me the source? It was hilarious IIRC.

Yeah. Do be embarrassed.

Or rather, be embarrassed if you feel this way about real life situations.

There's nothing wrong with feeling that way about fictional things, but if you believe that stalker behaviour (or otherwise allegedly romantic/actually creepy behaviour) is okay in reality so long as a guy is the victim... shame on you.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-30 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
This is partly the reason, despite being a mostly straight girl, I still find girl-on-girl porn about 10,000% more enjoyable? Because it's a girl in control, not a guy, and it just feels so much less creepy when there's no power imbalance? I find it hard to watch straight porn without being turned off because nine times out of ten the girl doesn't look like she is having fun or has any say in whatever scenario's happening and I find it hard to identify with that.

I'm sorry it's 2am I should really sleep this is a very badly worded and unintentionally offensive comment I will likely regret in the morning, I just wanted to say that this sentiment works both ways - removing the innately societal male-female power imbalance just removes a lot of innate creepiness to most romantic or sexual scenarios, to me, anyway.

Whereas my solution to this is femdom. (Or it would be, if I found the guys in most of the femdom porn I've encountered even remotely attractive. Well, that's what fanfic is for, right?)

(Anonymous) 2013-11-30 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I don't think it's the same: the power dynamics are very different, specially with M/M slash, where both characters are straight most of the time and "turned gay" for fandom.

So unless you are going specifically for sub/dom atchetypes, the power dynamics are far more equal. Men are equal to other men in most contexts, sadly, women are not, take most historical ones as example.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-30 07:42 am (UTC)(link)
This is a really out of date version of M/M. All the slash I've seen over the last ten years posits the characters as gay or bi, including all the Holmes/Watson.

Unless you're being deliberately obtuse and offensive and doing that "slash is OOC because unless a man is canonically stated to be outright gay he must must must be 100% straight, there are no closets, bis or other alternatives" thing. In which case you're ignorant or a bigot.
