Agreed!

I mean, I guess part of it may be people not wanting to get their hopes up (since we don't know if they'll get the rights to the character.)

But I do wish there was more Clarice in fandom. She's seriously one of my favourite female characters ever.

I'm not gonna lie, I kinda hope Clarice isn't in the show either. But for different reasons. As soon as she pops up, it'll be Game Over for Will. At that point, he becomes a side character (if even that). I hate the way things ended for him in books. He didn't deserve to be killed off as an after-thought. And NBC's Will is so much more pitiful and pathetic than the book version, so it'd be nice to see him finally overcome Hannibal's shit and live happily ever after.

(though Clarice and Lecter ending up together was equally awful imo. She deserved a better ending too!)

He didn't deserve to be killed off as an after-thought.

he wasn't killed off. eta: and i never watched the last 4 episodes of nbc's hannibal, but based entirely on the episodes i did watch and what i know happened in the final, graham's chances of getting a happier ending than he got in the books seem somewhere between none and zero.

I could have sworn it was implied that Will eventually died, but I might be mistaken. Either way, I wasn't very happy that Will became an after-thought after Red Dragon. I remember it was vaguely mentioned he became a drunk after Dollarhyde disfigured him and that his wife had left him. But I the book would have elaborated a little bit more on Will's fate.
I really hope NBC-Will gets a better ending that that. Though you're right - I'm probably being far too optimistic. With the way the series is, he'll probably get an even more depressing ending. :(

Bryan Fuller says in this interview that Will would be incorporated into the post-Red Dragon seasons in a way he wasn't in the books: http://www.assignmentx.com/2013/exclusive-interview-hannibal-news-on-season-1-season-2-and-beyond-from-showrunner-bryan-fuller/

Yay! This makes me very happy. :D

Now let's just hope the series doesn't get axed before that. :(

Network viewership is apparently getting so low now that they really need to start competing with edgier cable stuff whenever possible, so it's really not in their interest to cancel a show like this. And even if they did, Fuller also said that some cable channels (and Netflix or Amazon? I don't remember) were offering to take it if NBC had decided not to renew, so I really think it would find a home somewhere. It's either that or I lose my mind, lol. I really, really need to see this whole thing.

and that his wife had left him.

pretty sure that's conjecture.

fuller seems to have a hard-on for the character, so maybe he'll shoehorn a "happy" ending if the show doesn't get canceled before he gets a chance. but so far, graham has been more victimized in the 13 episodes of hannibal than he was in the entirety of red dragon.

It's possible his wife stayed with him, but idk the way Will's end was written gave me the impression that (at worst) Will and Molly had split up or (at best) their relationship was rocky and miserable. I couldn't imagine Molly sticking around once Will becomes an alcoholic, especially since there's a child involved. :(

I think maybe that's why I desperately want NBC-Will to have a happy ending. I hated how Will's story ended post-Red Dragon and he didn't go through half the crap that NBC-Will has gone through. I don't even want to think about how poor NBC-Will is going to end up after the show does the Red Dragon plotline.

For me, it's not so much "glossing over Clarice" as "not familiar with Clarice". I've never read the books, and by the time I was "old enough" to see Silence of the Lambs I had pretty much absorbed the entire plot through pop-culture osmosis, so the film itself had almost no impact on me. As a result, I care more about Will because I don't already know how it ends, and it's much more immediate to me that SotL ever was.

i hate all things nbc hannibal like flames on the side of my face and i'm always delighted (no sarcasm) to hear the fandom ignores/glosses over clarice.

because i know exactly how most of the (predominantly slash focused) fandom would play it out if they didn't ignore her and in the eloquent words of naomi campbell, i'm not here for that.

I hate how the fandom glosses over/outright ignores Clarice in general so they can focus on Will.

But...Will's the protagonist of the show and Clarice hasn't even shown up yet (and presumably won't show up for a long time). Of course she is going to be glossed over by fans.
