Yeah, it was really grossly-handled...as much as I dislike the concept, I don't really get why so many people feel the need to call Jacob a pedo over and over again. The concept for it was that neither he nor the baby had any control over it, which is actually what skeeved me out more than anything else. It's brainwashing is what it is.

When I see hate for it, I don't see much for Jacob specifically, but for the entire concept. It's creepy as hell and even creepier that it's "okay" because he has no control over it either. Like, WTF? Really? No just because it's supernatural or whatever doesn't make it not creepy. And her super-fast-aging makes it EVEN WORSE because Meyer insists she's somehow also aging mentally? No. When she's "18" and therefore "legal" for Jacob she'd still mentally be a child. It's fucked up in EVERY possible way and not just because "lol Jacob is a pedo now".

Yeah, I see more for Jacob myself; but I guess that just goes to show how ridiculously huge the whole thing is. But I agree with you. Way creepy.

After reading Mark Reads Twilight and his analysis of the book series I can only conclude SMeyer purposely did it to make Jacob look like a grade AAA sleazoid so Edward would look good by comparison.

That...makes sense.
And it didn't actually succeed, since Edward is still creepy, so...-20 SMeyer. Bad job.

but in the books she is actually demonstrated to be a lot more advanced mentally/emotionally than other children her age. the books (and imprinting, specifically) are still fucked up, but it's weird that you would be like "well I buy that she can physically age abnormally fast but there's no way she can mentally develop at a faster rate as well, that's just ridiculous!". I mean, come on, it's hardly the most unbelievable thing in the series.

He's still into a baby from the day she is born.

yes, and I'm not denying the gag worthiness of that but that wasn't what was being contested

See, this is the part where I stop thinking about the characters and start getting pissed off at Smeyer, and I mean really pissed off. When I saw "she will keep growing and will stop aging when she looks 18" I was physically disgusted. I mean, of all the flaggarantly self indulgent... of all the contrived bullspit... of all the cheap, cop out, writer wanking (I mean the "self love" definition) twelve year old on ff.net garbage... I was embarrassed for her at that point.

It's not "okay" because Jacob can't control it; that actually makes it more awful because essentially what the imprint does is mind rape the wolf into an obsession that effectively takes away the woman/girl/child in question's freedom of choice.

Basically it's horrible on all sides. There's a reason at least one wolf - in fact, I think it was pre-imprint Jacob himself, which if I'm right adds another skeevy layer because we know pre-imprint it wasn't a thing he wanted - was seriously freaked out by the idea.

I hadn't thought of it from Jacob's side before, so thank you for this comment. I mean, I wasn't vilifying him or blaming him, but I was mostly just feeling sympathy for the baby and hatred for Smeyer. I should be feeling sorry for Jacob, too.

Because he's a filthy pedo. And a furry. Like all other twilight main cast members, his painful death is the only way it should have ended.

Twilight is skeezy and stupid enough; you really don't need to try so hard to convince me to hate it.

I think the problem is that it super much fits into the whole "men can't help their urges" trope, so people are quick to jump on the character.
