Looks like a mixed metaphor between taking the bullet and falling on the sword. They're slightly different, but not meaningfully, since they're both about sacrifice, so eh *shrugs*

Actually, I think I'm combining taking a bullet and falling on a grenade - so even closer (they pretty much mean exactly the same thing, whereas falling on the sword is slightly different), but still wrong.

I'm basically OK with fucking up and using malapropisms though
