tumblr rant

(Anonymous) 2013-11-30 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, how about this one? "If you don't reblog x, I judge/unfollow you." And x is something stupid like "reblog if you've never sent anon hate." It's like fuck you, I don't send anon hate and I'll reblog whatever the hell I want. Or it's socially justice-y, like info about war crimes and oppression. And I know it's important to spread information, it seems just kind of disrespectful to reblog it in forgettable bite-sized pieces between squeeing about cute actors and tumblr jokes.

Whenever a post has "YOU HAVE TO REBLOG x", I automatically scroll on past.

And if someone has "IF YOU DON'T REBLOG x, I'LL UNFOLLOW YOU", I unfollow them.

I'll post whatever I want on my tumblr.

I've only seen one "If you don't reblog this I'll unfollow you" post on my list. I didn't reblog it, but I didn't get unfollowed. I was a little disappointed.

"You have to reblog this" posts annoy me and I typically ignore them as well, but I've never seen the ones about unfollowing. If anyone wants to unfollow me that's fine, and if not reblogging a post is enough to make someone unfollow me then apparently they didn't like me or my tumblr that much to begin with. *shrugs*

If I used Tumblr, those posts would fall under the same rule I currently use for "If you love [cause/your friends/your family/Jesus], then you will share this! I know most people won't but I know who WILL!" posts on Facebook.

Basically if you try to guilt me into parroting someone else's words, then automatically I am not going to do it. End of story. If I believe in a cause, or want to discuss my friends/family/religion, I will use my own words at a time that is appropriate for me, thanks.

As much fun as bagging on tumblr is... this isn't tumblr

Chain letters have been around a long long time.

Sadly, Tumblr entire format makes it a perfect chain letter 2.0.

It certainly got more people into it. But it didn't start it. It just used to be you'd be cursed instead of unfollowed.

This is why I don't Tumblr.

Get XKit.

Instead of relying on people to tag things the way tumblr savior does, you can block individual posts forever. You might have to see them that first time but as long as you have the app running you will never have to see it again.

nayrt but that's kind of awesome. Gonna look it up now, thanks!

Except Tumblr Savior doesn't require that things be tagged to block them (unless it's a photo post.) It'll catch anything in the body of the post, the tags or the username(s) of whoever blogged it. I use it and XKit together for optimum dashboard hygiene.

True but I always had the # in my blacklisted items because if I didn't, it would block a bunch of random shit that just happened to have that combination of letters in it. It got annoying.

You can do that with xkit too. The Blacklist extension, I think it was.

Um, if I don't want to reblog it I don't care and if I do I just remove that commentary without any guilt.

I hate those "if you don't reblog..." things. No matter what it is, they've guaranteed I won't reblog that post.
