TMI question

(Anonymous) 2013-11-30 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
So the weather just got cold here in the past week or so. And at the same time I suddenly noticed I have to pee more often. Like twice as often as usual. I've even been getting up in the middle of the night to pee. It's crazy. I feel fine and I haven't been drinking more fluids than usual, the only change is the weather.

Is this a normal thing for a woman in her 20s? Does anyone else magically transform into an old man with prostate cancer when it turns cold, or should I go scare myself with Web MD??

It may not be related to the weather at all.

I can't tell you if this is normal or not, but I know I've experienced it in the past when it was extremely cold. The best thing to do for your sanity is probably not to google it, but maybe you would find something out...

This is pretty common for me. You should not worry.

Your body is just burning up more calories to keep warm, a side effect of that is your body is producing more fluids as a waste product.

It wouldn't hurt to visit your family doctor and get a diabetes test though, just in case. Having to pee more often can (but is far from always) a symptom of that. Just to rule it out.

Do you wake up cold? Because usually if I get cold during the night it makes me have to go pee. Try using more blankets or turn up the heat?

I'd never heard of this until yesterday when I was pulling into a parking lot with a bunch of people and the guy driving said "fuck here's nowhere near he door, it's so cold that I'm gonna have to pee by we time we get inside!" Apparently it's a thing?
