I'm always reminded of this image from the "big three" of manga at the time in such discussions.

(I'm aware Nami has fanservice out the wazoo, but as the image alludes to, you can honestly say the crew would be fucked without her. Take Saukra or Orihime out of the situation and you'd, Oh, I dunno, lose one filler battle/need a new plot device)
