Disclaimer: I haven't read the books or sent he movies other than New Moon, and I really hate the Bella/Edward relationship with a passion.

That being said, I have less issue with the concept of imprinting or soulbond-from-birth thing than most people. Maybe because I read one particularly fantastic Star Wars fanfic where it was laid out in a relatively innocent way, but I always assumed that the relationship was essentially platonic until the younger partner reached sexual and emotional maturity. Sounds like this is not the case with Twilight, and it sounds like there is ZERO choice in the matter, but the idea of having a strong comforting and mentoring presence from a young age that turns into romantic love doesn't sound that awful to me.
