You are correct, anon. Tina is the worst thing about the entire second game, in a cringe-inducing, trying-so-hard-to-be-edgy-but-ending-up-infantile way. Moxxi was better in the second game, but in the first was very little more than empty pandering to the lowest common denominator.

And I say this as someone who also loved every other female character in those games.

Feminism: it's not about liking all women all the time.

(I was lucky enough to have a co-op buddy who felt exactly the same way in the second game, and he and I variously mocked or skipped every Tina-related sidequest.)

where is the part of the fandom that criticizes you as a bad fan for that? or did you mean in general? i have never seen anything where people are that involved in borderlands, all i've seen is some 'sexy' fanart on tumblr but mostly when people talk about bl it's about the actual game. i've always wondered if there was more of a fandom.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-30 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Is Tina bad? I love Ashly Burch's videos and thought it was cool that she did a character, but I haven't played the game.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-30 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I wold say it depends on whether that brand of humor is your cup of tea? I haven't seen too many of Ashly's videos, but I think it's in the same vein as those.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-30 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, then I'd probably really like it, tbh. Ashly and Anthony are hilarious and seem like awesome people, and I know Anthony did scriptwriting or something?

(Anonymous) 2013-12-01 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
If you take Ashly's "character" in HAWP and give it a thousand pounds of cocaine, it's Tina. I cannot stand Tina at all but I like HAWP. Actually came here to say that.

Tina is kind of like Ash (as in video Ash, not irl Ashly) but if Ash was a little kid and there was no Anthony to act as a semblance of balance.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-30 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I fluctuate between apathy and outright loathing when it comes to those two, so I understand. Moxxi is by far less irritating, however. Tina was just awful.

It's okay to not like female characters, so long as it's not because they are female.

Tina's whole thing is "look it's a white teenage girl talkin' like a black dude! it's random and hilarious!" and it's lazy humour and offensive to boot.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-30 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
.."Offensive" is taking it pretty far, unless she's spouting the n-word or something.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-01 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, I can agree on the lazy humor but offensive is way too much.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-01 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
I think Moxxi gets a lot of fanart because her character looks pretty awesome.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-01 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
It's definitely the sexy.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-01 06:52 am (UTC)(link)
Pay attention OP, THIS ^ is what a sexist BL fan looks like.
Confusing "Sexy" with awesome when there are actual awesome women in the game. While these mra's are around and active in videogame fandom, you probably don't have to worry about being a sexist fan.

DA

What. sjw troll, is that you? What does being a BL fan have to do with anything? And how do you know that anon is a BL fan? Just what.

Oh fake SJW troll, no one believes you.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-01 11:29 am (UTC)(link)
You're not even trying anymore. Or are you just a copycat who tries to follow in SJW troll's footsteps while only managing to be even more pathetic than they are?

AYRT

Damn! You caught me! It's not like I was commenting on how Moxxi's sex appeal does exactly what it's supposed to. I didn't even know I was born a man, or identified as one! Thanks for telling me what my genitalia is!

(Anonymous) 2013-12-01 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't played the game and only know her from hearing my friend play sometimes. From that: I found Tina obnoxious. She's pretty much the reason I never want to play it. You're not funny I hate you. Claptrap is shortly behind her.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-01 10:21 am (UTC)(link)
lol.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-01 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I am mostly neutral towards Tina, but I do like Moxxi. She's a very complex character and it saddens me to see the fandom turn her to a monodimensional fanservice machine. Yes, there is fanservice involved in her character...but she is so, so much more than that.

But I can understand if you don't like her. That does not make you a bad fan or sexist or whatever, it makes you a person who likes some things and dislikes some others. You'd be sexist if your reasons for disliking them were sexist, but you say you can't put a finger as on why, you just don't like them, and that's perfectly allowed too.

Has somebody attacked you for that?

Secret 1 - Borderlands 2 (videogame), Mad Moxxi (character), Tiny Tina (character)

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2014-01-04 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is Mad Moxxi and Tiny Tina from the videogame "Borderlands 2". Mad Moxxi is a woman with light skin painted with a light purple dust?, and make-up on her cheeks, lips and eyes. She is wearing a sort of circus ringmaster outfit, consisting of a purple suit jacket with a low neckline, golden buttons and trims, and the wristbands and neck have fabric with thick black and white stripes. She is wearing a matching purple tophat, also with a black white stripe on the band. Tiny Tina is a woman with tanned skin, short blond hair and gray eyes. She is wearing a brown sleeveless dress, a detached gray sleeve on her right arm, and a sort of apron thing around her waist with the picture of a cute animal. It seems she is wearing pants/trousers too? She has a band-aid over her nose.]

I found them both to be very annoying, Tina more so than Moxxi. I wish I could say why, but they just really, really got on my nerves. I liked Claptrap better than either of them.

Apparently this makes me a bad fan and sexist even though all the other female characters are awesome.

Also, how come no one else ever gets fanart? It's always, ALWAYS Moxxi!
