Your Weird Enjoyment

[personal profile] anonymouslyyours 2013-11-30 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Once a month I have to call my phone company to add minutes to my phone. It's an automated menu but the voice actor they chose to voice it reads his script so pleasantly and naturally I feel like I'm talking to an AI. Not a person or just prerecorded lines but a program with a vague awareness of the world and no particular emotion about our conversation but a desire to complete the objective of our conversation with ease, efficiency, and a nod to the polite social interaction humans enjoy.

I can't exactly articulate what I like about it so much but it's the nicest conversation I have every month. I always thank him and tell him to have a good night before I hang up and I don't even feel embarrassed about it until later.

I always like to save the phone card and do it after I get off work so I have something to absentmindedly look forward to but last night my brother saw my phone & phone card on my desk and decided to do it for me while I made dinner. I get that he was trying to be nice so I thanked him but I am so deflated I didn't get to interact with Johnathan this month. :(

I enjoy when my pee is clear. I get a sense of pride mixed with amusement that I think is weird but pleases me so.

Your story is better. Less pee, more smooth talking.

That's so cool/cute! I'd probably tell him to have a good night, too. :)

I have too much of this stuff to even pick out one example. Just know that my life is basically made of these moments.

OH! I'm obsessed with discount stores. Grocery Outlet, Big Lots, etc. But my heart really belongs to the non-chain stores. The more jumbled, poorly-lit, and dingy the better! I always find interesting stuff in those. Like cool early 90s holographic space stickers that may or may not have been sitting in a box for the last 20+ years.

I spend ninety percent of my time making things weird for my own personal amusement. People think I'm a very patient person and challenge me when I say I'm easily bored but that's because they don't understand what is happening in my head. Everything is anthropomorphized, everyone is headcanoned, I'm providing the subtitles, and it will be a competition!

This one just stood out to me because I am so disappointed and I wanted to tell someone about it. :(

I have space stickers but not holographic ones. So jealous. -n-

Hee! See, that kind of thing is why I consider myself pretty much impossible to bore. I can find something interesting in any environment, and even if I can't, my brain makes its own fun.

I think I only really get bored if I'm stuck in a conversation about something I'm not interested in with someone I don't especially like for more than ten minutes at a time.

Oh I might be defining things weirdly again. I tend to think of myself as bored if I'm mentally checking out of my environment or enhancing it with distractions and commentary.

Hey, it might just feel different for different people! "Bored" for me is being unsatisfied with whatever I'm doing in a way that makes me feel kind of blah.

No matter how bad my mood is or how depressed I am, I always get little shots of distilled happiness whenever I heard crows caw.

Cute little mom and pop book stores.

There was this one that had a cat and super cute erasers and it was the best.

YES STORES WITH CATS!

I love those. And I always ending staying like half an hour longer than I normally would because I'm hangin' with the cat(s).

Hmmmm. I really like cleaning the house when my housemates are out. It's easier to do it how I want without fearing of getting in someone's way. Quicker too, and oddly satisfying.

I like randomly going through closets/boxes/shelves of stuff when I'm alone in the house, and have ever since I was a kid. It's not constructive or anything, really. I just like the possibility of coming across something interesting that I'd forgotten about.

Computer administration and maintenance. I'm not formally trained, I just take care of my own and my family's machines, and I get a kick out of knowing how to work with stuff that a lot of people don't and keeping everything nice and orderly and running smoothly.

Aw, I'm sorry you didn't get your talk with Johnathan. That's very sad. It'll make next month extra-special, though?

I love cleaning the kitchen. If I get to do maintenance, too, it's even better. I love working in clean space, and I get especially fastidious when it's about food. The first thing I did when I moved in to my new place was scrub the sink: the drain and plugs (oddly there were two, and they're the metal kind and twist into and out of place) were so brown they weren't even slimy anymore. Lemme tell ya, it takes a long time to build a texture on the brown gook. I was so happy when it was done, I still get grins when I look at it three months later!

Once I'm away from my counters and cutting boards, though, it's like pulling damn teeth. :P
