To be honest this is creepier to me than the murderous intent out of anger thing. But I guess I can see how crime documentaries can lead to people thinking about that as a mental exercise. I've never really plotted murder as a mental exercise but I've tried to figure out how to steal things or sneak into places I'm not supposed to go just for fun.

I know, it's creepy. But it's really more of a clinical, detached sort of thing for me. It also mostly started because I was writing a story featuring a serial killer's POV - I spent a lot of time researching and thinking about these things was kind of the next step. It's strange, but I am actually incredibly nice and detest violence irl.

Imagining "how could I steal this stuff" is a lot of fun, though. I had lots of fun that one time I went to London and saw the crown jewels.

I figure it's the same sort of mindset that has me evaluating buildings I'm in for their usability during a zombie apocalypse sometimes.
