I like the ending, and I liked the way Collins went with Katniss' character. My problem with it is that since Katniss is the only POV we get through the book, having her never wanting to be involved with things is SO FRUSTRATING. Especially during the third book. I understand, it's so we can see how traumatized she is, and it's in-character for her to react this way, but there's a rebellion going on! Things are happening! But we don't get to see it because Katniss prefers to hide in closets and avoid everyone! So we're told that very important things are happening, but we, as the reader, don't get to be a part of it.

AND IT'S FRUSTRATING.

But to get back on topic, I didn't mind the ending. I thought it was good.

I hated this SO MUCH about the third book since like the first half of it is Katniss hiding from everybody and being crazy, basically. A friend and I were like, "they should just skip all that in the movies and allude to her having a long, difficult recovery until she became coherent and started getting involved in things again and pick up there."

Somehow I expect that won't happen, since there's two movies planned, right?

My other hope is maybe they fill it out by showing another POV for once...like what's happening to Peeta while everybody else is off in District 13.

I agree it would be nice to see other POV's, but I don't think that Peeta getting brainwashed and tortured for weeks on end would be any more interesting than Katniss avoiding her responsibilities.

I don't mean like..endless amounts of it, but just some acknowledgement of it without just sort of being told third person that it happened and seeing him show up crazy later.

Gale, maybe? It'd give us a good look around 13 while Katniss is struggling and it would help justify the way he keeps being marketed as one of the main characters.

DA:

I think at least showing us what is going on in the Capitol could be interesting, but yeah, they'd really have to dose it right to make it work. On the other hand, they could (and should) show Peeta's rescue. I suppose showing him before he meets Katniss in District 13 would kinda ruin the surprise of how violently he reacts when he sees her, but it's such an important event in the book. It would be a shame if we did get to see even a part of it.

This would be fantastic. Not just Peeta either, but other POVs that tell more of the story firsthand. Then in the second movie Katniss can take center place again.

Well, at least in addition to Katniss hiding and being crazy they could show us the stuff we didn't get to see. They won't want to show too much torture/brainwashing to keep their PG13 rating, but they could show other things, like Peeta's rescue. And while I was generally kinda "meh" about Gale, I think it would be interesting to follow him for a while, since he's actively involved with the rebellion. (as long as Gale getting more screentime doesn't mean LOVE TRIANGLE LOVE TRIANGLE LOVE TRIANGLE. *barfs*)

Maybe show us Prim a little more too, show how she's getting involved and becoming a healer, since we didn,t get to see it all that much and it's going to become relevant later.

Hell, why not show us Haymitch? I think I remember him being involved with all the war planning? Or maybe find something interesting to do with those kickass weapons Katniss gets but barely even uses in the book!

SO MANY POSSIBILITES.

I don't mind the two movies though, 'cause some parts of the book kinda felt rushed to me? Or at least that's how I remember it, it's been a while since I read the whole thing. The final fight in the Capitol I remember thinking was a bit of a let down since everything happened so far I had a hard time getting really emotional over it.

anon that brought up the peeta thing :)

Yeah, I thought after I got offline last night that definitely showing Prim would be a good thing. Mostly because I remember Katniss seeming so startled that somewhere in there Prim grew up to be a pretty competent person on her own without needing Katniss to hold her hand.

But mostly...having things all from Katniss' POV worked really well for the first two books because most of the action happens around her anyway. But then in the third book there's a bunch of stuff that's important to how things go in the story later...but we just sort of hear about it happening off screen and it sounds like it would be really interesting to actually see firsthand even though Katniss wasn't in position to do so.
